Guinness World Records and Carnival UK / Carnival UK

Major international cruise line company, Carnival UK - whose brands include well-known P&O Cruises and Cunard, wanted to replace its usual annual daytime offsite conference for UK teams with an event at its offices in Southampton; the event would help launch their new company values internally whilst simultaneously kicking off their Summer of Happiness programme, a programme introduced this year, consisting of 8 engagement events. Using Guinness World Records’ Employee Engagement activities Carnival UK’s team broke six world records in a highly memorable day that successfully helped to reflect and highlight their new brand values.
Guinness World Records, along with Carnival UK, saw an opportunity to engage the full breadth of the Carnival UK team - both in their UK head office in Southampton, and onboard their ships around the world. Four record titles were incorporated into the day – a mass participation record that would include contributions from colleagues in head office and from crew and Officers around the world, and 3 titles that could be attempted by colleagues on the day that each represented one of the 3 main onboard ship departments; hotel, deck and technical.
Guinness World Records made this team-building event work by:

•Providing creative record consultancy – to identify the best existing or new record titles for the event
•Bringing to life Carnival UK’s new brand values
•Creating an engaging and immersive experience

The event was an exciting departure from their usual annual daytime offsite conference at a local hotel, receiving positive acclaim from both from teams in attendance on the day and in a post-event survey organised by GWR’s on Carnival UK’s behalf. 90% of Carnival UK’s employees left the event feeling that the record activities were unique, 90% felt that the event was well organised and 87% left feeling involved in the team building activities.
