Cascade Productions was given the task of designing and producing an event for 150 National Trust volunteer managers from across the UK on a limited budget. To help keep costs down the Superhero themed part-conference, part festival event was held at Calke Abbey, a National Trust venue in Derbyshire, meaning the money could be spent on other things.
The venue's 354m2 riding school was transformed into a Superhero themed conference - following on from previous themes such as an airport theme and music festival theme. Cascade was able to secure reduced rates from hotels and suppliers and waived its own management fees, providing the associated website and video recording all free of charge.
The two-day event delivered crucial messages on how to approach volunteer management through a variety of creative workshops and plenary sessions. Delegates were surveyed before and after the event, and the results demonstrated that understanding after the conference had an overall average increase of 27%, showing clear ROI.
