Make it Edinburgh Live. Hybrid Events by EICC

Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC)

In mid-March 2020, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, EICC closed its doors and stopped operating as a conference and events venue. Shortly after, a project team was assembled to develop a reactive plan to protect the business whilst the Pandemic was causing clients to consider cancelling or postponing their events.
The team developed Make it Edinburgh Live – a series of hybrid event packages which offer positive alternatives to in-situ events, providing clients the opportunity to go ahead with their events, despite physical distancing and infrastructure closures.

The solutions have been designed to allow events to be delivered entirely online, or in a hybrid format, whereby some of the audience joins online and some attend in the venue.

The key focus is total flexibility, which is essential given frequently changing legislation and uncertainties over when physical gatherings can take place again, and what size those gatherings can be. The split between the online and in-person audience can be decided right up until when the event takes place, allowing clients to focus on planning the event content.

Whatever the format of the event, the technical aspects are fully managed by EICC. Delegates experience, access and interact with the event via a professional interface which has branding opportunities for clients and sponsors.
After announcing Make it Edinburgh Live, we received a great level of interest from clients keen to go ahead with their events in this format. Ten days after the launch, we supported Street Soccer Scotland to deliver their Gala Dinner at Home, where over 400 guests joined online and raised around £60,000 via a charity auction.
In the weeks ahead we look forward to hosting further events in online or hybrid formats, such as the Scottish Council for Development and Industry Forum and the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations’ Awards Ceremony.
