Energising Tomorrow: Shell Eco-marathon by Emota

Emota

Client: Shell

Indianapolis (USA), Lombok (Indonesia), and Nogaro (France)

Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s most prestigious student engineering competitions, challenging young innovators to design, build, and drive the most energy-efficient vehicles. In 2024, this global programme spanned three continents — with over 3,000 students from 38 countries competing in Indianapolis (USA), Lombok (Indonesia), and Nogaro (France).

As Shell’s long-term partner, Emota was tasked with delivering a seamless, consistent, and culturally adapted event experience across all venues, while upholding world-class standards in safety, sustainability, and brand integration. Rather than managing three isolated events, Emota implemented a unified global delivery model — building “Innovation Villages” at each venue to encourage collaboration, technical excellence, and cultural exchange.

Our approach fused operational excellence with sustainability. Across all sites, we employed solar-powered infrastructure, recyclable materials, and CO₂-saving practices — embedding Shell’s environmental commitments into every aspect of delivery. From a 140-metre collaborative tent in France to NASA-linked programming in Indianapolis and culturally sensitive operations in Indonesia, every detail was crafted for impact and inclusivity.

Key achievements include 1,589 safety inductions, 4,000+ merchandise items distributed, and 24/7 support across all venues. With 91% of students expressing intent to return, and outstanding client feedback, Shell Eco-marathon 2024 not only inspired the next generation of energy leaders but set a new global benchmark for sustainable, student-driven automotive events.

The success of this year’s series marks a milestone in our long-standing partnership with Shell, reflecting Emota’s evolution from a logistics partner to a full-service global programme lead. Together, we continue to redefine what a future-focused, culturally rich, and environmentally responsible automotive event can be.
