Most companies celebrate milestone anniversaries by looking back. Arup chose to look forward.

As one of the world's most respected engineering consultancies, Arup has an extraordinary legacy to honour. Yet rather than creating a conventional anniversary reception filled with retrospectives and self-congratulation, the organisation wanted a celebration that reflected its values and enduring purpose.

The brief was to create a memorable evening that would bring together CEOs, policymakers and designers to recognise Arup's contribution over eight decades while inspiring attendees about the opportunities and challenges ahead. We developed a celebration built around a simple belief: the best way to honour the last 80 years was to start a conversation about the next 80.

Hosted at Lightroom in King's Cross, the event combined world-leading expertise with the lived experiences of people navigating everyday urban life. The event took place within a four-storey immersive environment where 28 projectors transformed 1,500m² of space into a storytelling canvas. Guests journeyed through bespoke installations, urban soundscapes, a spectacular 360° film experience and keynote discussions from globally recognised thought leaders. The evening culminated in a powerful spoken-word performance from Young Creator Iffat Rahman.

The result was a milestone event that was both meaningful and memorable. Arup exceeded its target for VIP invitation acceptances and received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with guests describing the evening as “spectacular”, “inspiring” and “a great way to celebrate the milestone”.

Importantly, the conversation extended beyond the event itself. Attendees shared their experiences across LinkedIn, generating more than 1,258 reactions and reaching a combined audience of 47,000+ professional followers.

By bringing together influential voices, creating unforgettable immersive moments and giving equal space to reflection, inspiration and celebration, Arup transformed an anniversary into something rare. It celebrated an extraordinary legacy without dwelling on the past, reinforcing everything Arup stands for.
