A leading exhibition and convention venue in Hong Kong, AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) offers over 70,000sqm rentable spaces with track record of hosting mega conference up to 20,000 delegates. Before the outbreak of global pandemic, AWE hosted over 300 events and attracted more than 4 million visitors per annum. 

Since the outbreak of COVID in Hong Kong, AsiaWorld-Expo was transformed to a Community Treatment Facility (CTF) in the first half of 2021. By just using 72 hours in conversion, the team demonstrated its versatility and adaptability.

In view of the uncertain COVID development in Hong Kong, quick transformation between patient treatment centre and normal event mode is essential. On one hand, the venue was enlisted as a core site to operate and stand-by for medical needs, while on the commercial front, the venue needs to resume asap once COVID is more contained so that postponed events can take up the limited available window and minimise the revenue impact in long run. To achieve this, AWE goes after 3 directions (1) Assure venue safety by implementing rigorous standard of sanitation with smart solution (2) Maximise the staff resources in catering dynamic needs (3) Help event organisers survive the affected period and entrust AWE for more events after bounce back.

AWE MICE team demonstrated its expertise by introducing 8 industry-first sanitising solutions. The team secured 28 new events during the recovery periods, worth to highlight is the 21-day long-tenure debut event and the return of Asia’s largest tech event for 5 consecutive years. By embracing the COVID challenges positively, AWE achieved a record-high occupancy rate and revenue.
